Wynne northward bound
April 17, 2007

Marvell Wynne, the number one overall draft pick just a year ago, and benched just a week ago, is going to be reunited in Toronto with his former coach, Mo Johnston, reports Ives Galarcep. Johnston, who traded up in the draft last year to select Wynne for Metro, is in desperate need for defenders after failing to sign any competent backliners for his expansion side. The trade is reported to be for a second round draft pick in next year's draft and a partial allocation.

After starting the opener and playing poorly, Bruce Arena benched Wynne last week for newly-acquired Hunter Freeman, and the move paid off as the former Rapid played extremely well at the right back spot. Wynne made $150,000 last year, when he did not count against the salary cap. Trading him now, when he does, would clear the space under the cap which might have been necessary to sign Juan Pablo Angel, and also opens up a senior roster spot for the Colombian striker.
